STEAM SCHOOL
Irving Park Elementary is the only STEAM school in Guilford County. Thanks to donors like you, all of the teachers are STEAM certified and are making a difference in the academic growth of every child that attends Irving Park Elementary. STEAM is an instructional framework that integrates the arts (language arts, performing arts, and humanities) with STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).
Georgette Yakman, founder of STEAM, defines the program as: Science & Technology, interpreted through Engineering & the Arts, all based in Mathematical elements. STEAM does a lot more than add in art after a full day of core subjects. For every lesson in traditional STEM programs, students are challenged to collaborate, think creatively, and build connections between concepts.
